3 Frequently Asked Question About Plastic Molds

- Dec 28, 2018-

Q1 :What's the difference between plastic injection molds and the plastic products?

A:   Molds generally have two meanings in the first place. One is that the model of the product is usually called the mold. The second is the tooling used to produce the product, also called the mold. The former shape is the same as the product, the size is the same, and the product is what it is like. The latter is the same shape as the product but the size is different. Some products are in the mold during casting, and some products are outside the mold during casting. The materials of different product molds are also different.

Q2: How many kinds of molds are there?

A:   Molds can be divided into metal molds and non-metal molds. Metal molds are further divided into: casting molds (non-ferrous metal die-casting, steel casting), and forging molds; non-metal molds are also divided into: plastic molds and inorganic non-metal molds. According to the different materials of the mold itself, the mold can be divided into: sand mold, metal mold, vacuum mold, paraffin mold and so on. Among them, with the rapid development of polymer plastics, plastic molds and people reference encyclopedia
Plastic molds can generally be divided into: injection molding molds, extrusion molding molds, gas-assisted molding molds and the like.  Big
Non-sheet metal parts produced on a large scale - cold heading, die forging, metal molds, etc. Mold
Sheet metal discharge--hot rolling, cold rolling, hot coil, cold coil sheet metal processing--draw, shape, bend, punching, blanking non-ferrous metals--casting, powder metallurgy plastic parts--injection, Blow molding (plastic bottles), extrusion (pipe fittings) molds Other classifications: alloy molds, sheet metal molds, plastic molds, stamping molds, casting molds, forging molds, extrusion molds, die-casting molds, automotive molds, thread rolling molds

Q3: What is the material used in the mold?

A:   Cold stamping die generally uses Cr12, CrWMn, Cr12MoV, etc. as the punch and die, and other parts use 45# steel and Q235 steel. Injection molds generally use carbon mold steel: mainly medium carbon structural steel, representing steel grades S45C, S48C, S50C, S55C and so on. Pre-hardened die steel: mainly used medium carbon alloy steel with high hardenability, representing steel grades P20, 718, 2311, 2738, 42CrMnMoV, WSM30B. The steel plate is pre-hardened and can be used directly without heat treatment. It is a mold with large batch size, large mold size and complex shape and high precision. Age hardening mold steel: In the low carbon alloy, adding certain trace elements, the hardness is low, it is easy to mold, and then through heat treatment, to achieve high hardness requirements, the common steel number is P80B, which is used for complex shape and high polishing performance. Mould, corrosion-resistant mold steel, easy-cutting die steel: Electroslag-type die steel: It can achieve the effect of polishing to mirror, and has strong corrosion resistance, representing steel number 20R, 718R. Die casting molds generally use 3Cr2W8V, H13 and other materials.
